CJSF
Background:
The purpose of CJSF is to recognize high standards of scholarship, service and citizenship on the part of middle school students. CJSF membership prepares students for future CSF membership, provides opportunities for school and community service, and offers recognition through diplomas and award pins. Students develop valuable leadership skills and build a foundation for their college applications by participating in activities focused on scholarship, service, and citizenship. Membership in CJSF is neither automatic nor required.
As a student applying for membership in the California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF), I understand and agree to the following requirements and responsibilities. By signing this contract, both the student and parent/guardian acknowledge and accept these expectations.
CJSF Membership Requirements:
Students must apply for each and every semester to continue to remain an active member of CJSF. Students can apply by joining the Google Classroom and submitting the CJSF application and submit their unofficial transcript to Ms. Tom before the designated deadline for that semester.
· Students must also provide $10 membership dues. Students may speak with Ms.Tom if there is any financial hardship. CJSF membership dues are used by local school chapters to fund chapter-specific activities, awards, and supplies, such as the honor pins and gold seals given to Honor Members. These fees cover costs for running the organization, including administrative expenses and programming, and ensure the chapter remains in "good standing" with the State organization to be eligible for awards.
· Students must earn a minimum of 8 CJSF points based on grades from academic subjects only. Points are awarded as follows: A = 3 points, B = 1 point, C or lower = 0 points. No points are given for P.E. or electives.
· Students must maintain a GPA consisting of A's and B's with no D or F grades.
· Students must maintain excellent citizenship, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and cooperation in all classes.
· Any unsatisfactory or needs improvement in citizenship will disqualify a student from CJSF membership for that semester .
· Academic dishonesty or cheating of any kind will result in immediate disqualification from CJSF for the current semester and may result in removal from future eligibility.
· Continued membership is based on your academic performance from the prior semester, and you must apply each semester to continue to be a Honor’s member. You will only need to provide a membership donation once per year.
· If a student’s membership has been terminated. Their membership dues will not be returned.
Expectations:
· Members are expected all monthly CJSF meetings and only be excused from one after notifying Ms. Tom
· Meetings will be held on first Tuesday of each month from October through May, after school in room 304, promptly at 3:30 pm. Occasionally, additional meetings are added during the year to discuss and plan for upcoming events. Meetings will be announced via Google Classroom to students. It is important that CJSF members check their CJSF Google Classroom for updates and events
· Each member can only miss a total of one meeting per semester to be in good standing. 2 or more missed meetings will also result in termination of membership. Members also must inform Ms. Tom if they are unable to attend a meeting.
· Students who fail to meet the academic or behavior standards will be removed from CJSF membership for that semester.
Qualifying as an Honors Member:
CJSF Honor Members: Students who qualify for CJSF for ALL 3 semesters during 7th & 8th grade will be promoted "With Honors" at the 8th grade promotion. All CJSF Honor Members receive a CJSF gold pin that they can wear to Promotion, a gold seal on their Promotion Certificate, an asterisk (*) next to their name in the Promotion Program, will have their school records marked with CJSF. For the school year of 2025-2026 ONLY, 8th graders who are members for both semesters of their 8th grade year will qualify as an Honors Member due to this year being Ms. Tom’s first as an advisor and students not having the opportunity to apply last school year.
