Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

As the Principal of Chula Vista Middle School, I am honored to welcome you to our 2019 – 2020 academic year. Chula Vista Middle has a strong and rich tradition as the School for the Creative and Performing Arts and we pride ourselves with having talented and gifted scholars, professional and caring faculty, staff, and dedicated parents. It is my pleasure to partner with our community to provide a healthy learning environment for each of our students so that each of them can reach their fullest potential. I am excited to be able to work with you to continue to raise student achievement and prepare students for high school and beyond.

During the 2018-2019 academic year, Chula Vista Middle School students accomplished many goals. We had amazing performances by our SCPA students, strong showings at the District Solar Sprint Car Race, Robotics Competition, Math Field Day and Science Fair. Additionally our eight grade class had an increase in our promotion percentage rate by more than 10%. These are all great accomplishments that were a result of our teamwork and dedication.

It is my philosophy that by working together as a TEAM towards a common goal, we can push each student to reach his/her fullest potential and produce amazing results. As a TEAM we will focus on creating a safe and equitable learning environment that embraces our collective strengths, as well as differences, in order to reach our goals. I am committed to you and the work we do as a TEAM at Chula Vista Middle School, home of the Cavaliers.

This upcoming year we will implement several changes to our school. First, we will no longer require school uniforms for our students. I have included a copy of our new dress code policy for you information. The new dress code will be enforced from the first day of school. Students who fail to comply with our dress code will be provided with a uniform shirt or pants to use for the day. Parents may also bring appropriate attire for the students to change in to. Failure to comply with our dress code may also result in disciplinary consequences. This year we are also implementing Rise-Up Friday’s during our minimum days. On these days students who are not mastering content standards will stay after school to work with their content area teachers. This will provide them win an additional opportunity to master the content. More information on the specifics of Rise-Up Fridays will be forthcoming.

Should you have any questions regarding your student’s progress or school programs, do not hesitate to call our school office and our dedicated staff will direct your question to the appropriate personnel. I look forward to working with you as we continue our pursuit of excellence at Chula Vista Middle School. The first day of school is July 22, 2019. It is a regular school day with our gate opening at 7:30 AM and classes begin at 8:15 AM. Please have your children in school no later than 8:00 AM. I have included some important reminders on the back of this letter. If you have any questions, please call us at 619-498-6800.
